The production of passenger cars in Russia in 2022 may be reduced by about 50%.

„The decrease in the market and production (cars – IF) this year will be about 50%,” – said the Minister of Industry and Trade of the Russian Federation Denis Manturov on Friday during an extraordinary plenary meeting of the State Duma.

According to the minister, electric cars are the optimal solution for the recovery of both production and the market. “Because neither an internal combustion engine, nor a transmission, nor axles are required. This optimizes the timing of the launch of new production,” he stressed.

„You have now touched upon one of the production facilities – Avtotor, where a special investment contract has indeed been signed, colleagues expect to start production already. Hopefully, at the end of this year or the beginning of next, in order to saturate the car market,” Manturov said, responding to a deputy’s request .
